Conor McGregor vs Khabib UFC 229 – Conor McGregor receives medical suspension
Conor McGregor has received a one-month medical suspension following his UFC 229 bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, in which he suffered a fourth-round submission defeat to the reigning lightweight champion.
McGregor, who prior to Sunday morning hadn’t set foot inside the Octagon in nearly two years, won’t be able to take part in contact training until October 28.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission announced the news in their list of medical suspensions from the event, an excerpt of which read: “Conor McGregor: Suspended until 11/06, no contact until 10/28.”
Conor McGregor vs Khabib – Dana White explains what Khabib should’ve done after UFC 229 win
UFC president Dana White believes Nurmagomedov should’ve quashed his beef with McGregor and his team immediately after submitting the Irishman.
“What Khabib should have done was pick Conor up, pull him up from the ground, hug him and say good fight or whatever and get his belt,” White said during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take.
“Even if you’re the biggest Conor fan ever, you would at least have to respect it.
“He won the fight, and he looked great doing it, and he had the opportunity to walk out of that place tonight a champion and look like a stud instead of flying over the cage and starting this whole thing that he did.
“It should have been a very different night for him.”
Nurmagomedov is currently awaiting punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who are holding the Russian’s £1.57million purse.
