Khabib Nurmagomedov got the better of Conor McGregor inside the Octagon – but now he wants to emulate the Irishman by taking on Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring.
Russian Khabib has called out Mayweather after his emphatic stoppage victory over McGregor at UFC 229.
The win was marred by ugly scenes in the aftermath of the bout which saw both fighters and their entourages brawl both inside and outside the Octagon.
McGregor fought Mayweather in Las Vegas last year and was outboxed throughout before being stopped late in the fight.
But Khabib believes he can go one better than his foe, having extended his perfect MMA record to 27-0.
While standing alongside Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather’s promotion company, he said: “Hey let’s go Floyd, we have to fight now.
“50 and 0 versus 27 and 0, two guys that never lose. Let’s go, why not. Because in the jungle only one king, only one king.
“Of course I am the king. Because he [Mayweather] can not drop McGregor but I drop him easily.”
Eberle appeared to open the door to a potential showdown, replying: “You’ll get some of that work baby.”
Mayweather was critical of Khabib, who has been suspended by the UFC, for his conduct after the McGregor win.
